2020 Point In Time Count

The annual point-in-time (PIT) count of the homeless which Helping Hands participated. During a 24-hour period in January, teams throughout the county found: Unfortunately all the numbers are still being tallied. This is what happened in Spring Valley, when numbers come in we will update with totals for Rockland County.

The PIT count is always an undercount of the actual homeless in Rockland County, since HUD guidelines do not consider persons “couch surfing” to meet their definition of homeless.

The good news from this year’s count is that more people are seeking emergency shelter during the cold months and that we are finally able to provide this for them. Our long term goal, of course, is to end the scourge of homelessness permanently.
